The modern emblem
It was confirmed in May, 1996 by the decision of city council session.
It was confirmed in connection to celebrating of the 900-years city anniversary. Sable; argent sword with or handle edge downwards in pale, accompanied on the sides by or eight-beam star. The shield enframed by or cartouche and crowned by argent urban crown with three prongs.
The sword symbolizes time and the reasons of occurrence, becoming and development of city as defensive fortress on a trading way. Stars are signs of eternity and testify to centuries-old history of settlement. The sable field characterizes fertile lands around the city.
