It was confirmed in February, 27th, 2001 by the decision of oblast' council session. Azure; lion or with a crown leans on the rock. The shield is enframed by cartouche or, it is decorated by branches. In the upper chief of the emblem is a small emblem of Ukraine.
The lion leaning against the wall symbolizes the puissance and the power of the region that over the centuries preserved its independence form the invaders. The branches have the meaning of the mighty and nobility of the region. The lion is the name of the Prince in whose name was called the town.
