Azure strips indicate the Dnieper and Desna, running through the region. Gules represents the glorious traditions of Cossack territory, and the bell tower of the Christmas cathedral underlines the spirituality of the region. Flower of salsify ("kozelets'") is an associative symbol indicating the name of the region. Rus' soldier shows the population of the region since the time of Kyiv Rus' and the existence of this fortified territory; Cossack with the mace indicates that Kozelets' was the birthplace of the het'man Kyrylo Rozumovs'kyi.
