The description of emblem in the middle and the big emblems of Czechoslovakian Republic according to the Law #252 from March 30 1920 is: "On the back state shield in the top left field is emblem of Pidkarpats'ka Rus. The shield per pale two halves - in the dexter azure are three or stripes, in the sinister argent is gules bear standing on its hind legs and looking to the right."
In March 1939 was formed an independent state - Karpats'ka Ukraine. That state in its first law from March 15 has decided: "The national emblem of Karpats'ka Ukraine is the present emblem of the region: a gules bear in the left argent field and four azure and three or stripes in the right field and a trident of St.Volodymyr the Great with a cross on the middle prong."
The Principle about the emblem of Zakarpats'ka oblast' describes the image: "Per pale. Azure; three horizontal stripes or. Argent; bear gules standing on its hind legs and looking to the dexter."
