The first mention refers to 1464, although exists legend about another data - 1242. Name of settlement derives from the spear-peaks - the main weapon, which was used by settlers for defence against attack of the Tatars. However, the more likely that the place name comes from the proper name of one of the first settlers - Pikul'.
