For the name of the village the Slav settlers used to Ukrainian word "heron" - “chaplya”. The basis of the symbol is stylized image of the bird. The oval represents nature, heron is the prototype of the Phoenix bird. The region is famous by reserve "Askania Nova", the symbol of which is a steppe eagle. The protected steppe Askanii Nova is only place where grow Scythian tulip and tulip of Schrenk.
