The Lubar forerunner was old city Bolohiv, the mention of which one is in Ipativs'kyi annals 1150. In 1324-1386 the city was in Lubart possession, who was a son of Lithuanian prince Hedymyn. With XIV up to XVII centuries the settlement wore a name Lubartiv.
