ROVEN'KY

The city history was bound up with cossacks. After suppression of Bulavin revolt 49 cossack settlements have been burnt (including Osynovyi Roven'ok near small river Aydar - now it is Roven'ky of the Bulhorods'ka oblast', Russia). Cossacks, saved from prosecution, have named new settlement on "the Wild field" Roven'ok in honour of the burned city. In the first mention of a large village was spoken: "Large village Orlovo-Rovenets'ka is at top of Roven'ok beam, on its both parties on slopes of a beam. The initiator of Ukrainian immigration was general-major Vasyl' Petrovych Orlov (subsequently the army ataman) in 1793. In end of XIX century rich deposits of coal here have been found there. In beginning of XX century the village becomes the advanced trading industrial centre. In 1934 Roven'ky has received the status of city. Now a basis of economy of city is the coal enterprises.
