It is known since 1760, when it was found by the cossack foreman Holovko. In XVI-XVII centuries near Vovcha river, on which coast Pokrovs'ke is located, ran Muravs'kyi way, by which Crimean tatars attacked Ukrainian lands. According to the legend, in the end of XVII century Ivan Sirko has met on Muravs'kyi way large tatar group and in the battle released inhabitants, which were captived by tatars. It has taken place per day of the Virgin Cover holiday. In her honour and on a mark of memory about this victory village was named Pokrovs'ke.
