It was confirmed in June, 19th, 2002 by the decision of city council session. Per fess in chief per pale. First Vert; horseshoe Or ears down. Second Azure; hammer and wrench Or in saltire. Third Sable; four couped in the pales Gules with bordure Argent. The shield is framed by a wreath from maple and lime leaves Vert, intertwined by ribbon Azure with inscription "Avdiivka" Or and crowned by city crown Argent.
Horseshoe is a symbol of happiness, hammer and a key are symbols of rail transport, short fesses represent stylized image of a coke oven battery. Image on site V.Napytkin.
