The modern emblem
It was confirmed in December, 22nd, 2004 by the decision #248-19/IV of region council session.
Gules with border Azure. Formy cross Or with sabres Argent in saltire above it, accompanied in the chief by eight-pointed star Or. The shield is framed by a wreath from poppies, oak leaves and ears of wheat.
Cossack Cross and Cossack weapons Or mean old times, when region gave rise to the glorious history of the Ukrainian Cossacks, because until 1593 here were the first of the Zaporizhzhya Sich - Tomakivs'ka. The symbol of this Sich is eight-pointed star. Gules symbolizes bravery.
